She was deported despite a judge’s order. We are fighting for her return and for every Dreamer at risk.

Any grew up in the United States since childhood. She is a scholarship college student, a daughter, and a friend. Like hundreds of thousands of Dreamers, she built a life in the only place she has ever called home. She was waiting to board a flight at Boston’s Logan Airport to surprise her family in Texas for Thanksgiving. She carried schoolbooks in her bag. She never imagined what would happen next.

When it was her turn to board, Any was told her boarding pass did not work and to see customer service.  Several federal agents detained and shackled her. She slept on the floor in detention and was given little food. Any was shipped to a for-profit prison in Texas.

A federal judge ordered that Any not be removed from the United States while her case moved forward.

That order was ignored.

Agents pulled her away from her family, confiscated her belongings, and expelled her from the country. She was deported to Honduras, left at a bus stop with no time to prepare, no chance to call her loved ones, and no chance to say goodbye.

She was alone. She was terrified. She was denied due process.

Any Lucia’s Story: A Dreamer Torn from Her Future. A Movement Rising to Defend Her.

Amy’s Nightmare on ABC News.

Her story represents the nearly 2.5 million Dreamers living in the U.S. who entered the U.S. as children, and are in school or have already completed high school or an equivalent credential. These are Dreamers living with fear and uncertainty every day.

Dreamers Need Protection Now

The DREAM Act was reintroduced in Congress. Senator Dick Durbin shared Any’s story on the Senate floor as part of his 150 Dreamer Stories series. Dreamers study here, work here, and build families here. Many have no memories of any other home.

Any is exactly who the DREAM Act was written for.

·      A young person who grew up in this country.

·      A student building her future.

·      A neighbor who contributes and belongs.

She has a quiet strength. She loves her family deeply. She hopes for a future where Dreamers are protected instead of targeted.

Without protections, Dreamers who make up nearly one-fifth of the total population of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. face sudden removal, family separation, and threats to their future.

The immigration system is inherently unfair, but it doesn't have to be.

Congress has the power to change immigration laws and we elect Congress. Contact your representatives, encourage friends and family to do the same. Tell them to pass the Dream act to protect children. We are stronger together.

Mass Deportation Defense activated its legal clinic.

Todd Pomerleau, Chair of GET MaDD and partner at Rubin Pomerleau PC, became Any’s attorney.

The legal team began building the path to bring her home.

Mass Deportation Defense stands beside her, amplifying her story, defending her dignity, and building the community support needed so that no Dreamer would face this system alone.

Your support strengthens both the legal fight and the community safety net that keeps families together.
